Cycling News with a UK twist...

BottomBrackets Guide to Cycling
in the East Midlands

The East Midlands has a great variety of cycling terrain, from the flat fens of Lincolnshire to the UK's first ever National Park - the Peak District.
A pleasant and not too demanding region to do a bit of cycletouring...
LEICESTERSHIRE
Leicestershire has some great walking and cycling country in its grassy uplands, in Charnwood Forest and at Rutland Water - a popular family cycling area - a nature reserve with a purpose built 23m cycle path with visitor centre, bike hire and great views.
The Vale of Belvoir is a little known area criss-crossed by lanes and other 'rights of way'. It's very popular with local Cycling Clubs and was home to the legendary 'Margaret's Old Teapot' cafe.

LINCOLNSHIRE
Lincolnshire is a county of varied landscape.
South Lincolnshire is like being in rural Holland. Flat fenlands punctuated by waterways, windmills and even the occasional tulip field. To the west are 'The Wolds', a slightly hillier landscape of rich arable farming land.
Lincoln itself is an old Roman city and houses a spectacular Cathedral, once the tallest building in the world!
The Lincs coast has many nature reserves which are home to colonies of widfowl and don't forget to get a bag of chips at Skegness - Bracing!

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE
Nottinghamshire is a diverse county and the Inverness to Dover Cycle Route passes right through it.
It's DH Lawrence country, Robin Hood's Sherwood Forest (now host to Sherwood Pines offroad cycling centre) and of course, the City of Nottingham. Once the home of cycle manufacture, the Queen of the Midlands is now one of the most vibrant cities in England.

DERBYSHIRE
Last but certainly not least, Derbyshire's Peak District has some of the best cycling country in the UK. It's no coincidence that many of Britain's top cyclists hail from this area...
Cycle hire is readily available from many places and an extensive network of lanes and traffic free dedicated cycle routes in the midst of some fantastic scenery are a cycletouring dream come true.
